Hydrologic Unit Digitizing in Arkansas

A work group has been formed within Arkansas involving universities, state agencies and other federal agencies to cooperate and coordinate efforts to digitize statewide coverage of the 11 and 14 digit hydrologic unit areas (HUAs) at a scale of 1:24,000. Procedures are being developed and agreed upon by the cooperators to meet Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) standards and to delineate a full 8 digit HUA at a time. Each completed 8 digit unit is reviewed and edited by the Arkansas NRCS Geographic Information System (GIS) staff and the National HUA certification unit. Agencies and institutions involved with the HUA work group currently include:

  • Natural Resources Conservation Service
  • Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department
  • Corps of Engineers - Little Rock
  • University of Arkansas at Monticello
  • University of Arkansas at Fayetteville
  • United States National Forest Service
  • Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality
  • Arkansas Soil and Water Conservation Commission
  • Arkansas Game and Fish Commission
  • United States Geological Survey
