2008 Arkansas Soil Survey Work Planning Conference

April 1, 2008

Hello All,

The NRCS Arkansas Soil Staff would like to cordially invite you to our Work Planning Conference, June 4th and 5th 2008 at the Faulkner County Natural Resources Center, Conway, Arkansas. The focus for our conference will be “Cooperation, Information, and Technology Transfer” which coincides with the theme for the 2008 Southern Regional Cooperative Soil Survey Conference “Innovative Technologies for the New Soil Survey”.

In 2005, we hosted our first statewide Work Planning Conference in 30 years to exchange ideas on improving the Soil Survey Program in Arkansas and to discuss ways to address the soils needs of our cooperators.

This year we would like to continue that dialogue and provide training using innovative technologies that our agency has developed and acquired. Each agency, cooperator, and/ or friend is encouraged to attend or send a representative to this event. The conference will address issues from state, regional, and national perspectives and will be an opportune time to share and learn about the future direction of the Soil Survey Program in Arkansas. We plan to present ideas that we generate to the 2008 Southern Regional Cooperative Soil Survey Conference in Gainesville, Fla.

Please RSVP Cissy Reid at (501) 301-3129 or by email at cissy.reid@ar.usda.gov if you plan to attend or if you have any questions or comments.

Conference Events will include an Arkansas Professional Soil Classifiers meeting and keynote address.

If you have any further questions or need additional information about the Work Planning Conference contact Luis Hernandez, State Soil Scientist at luis.hernandez@ar.usda.gov or call (501) 301-3116.

Mark your calendar for June 4th and 5th 2008; and we look forward to seeing you at the conference.

LUIS A. HERNANDEZ
MLRA Leader/State Soil Scientist
