NRCS Hosts Backyard Conservation WaterFest at Mabelvale Magnet Middle School

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., April  17, 2006 -- Water is our greatest natural resource and educating the next generation on how to protect it is key. The Natural Resources Conservation Service, NRCS, is hosting Backyard Conservation WaterFest at Mabelvale Magnet Middle School on Friday. Partners supporting WaterFest include the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission, Pulaski Conservation District, USDA-NRCS National Water Management Center, Central Arkansas Water, Tyson Foods, and over 20 other organizations and companies. At WaterFest students will learn why protecting soil and water resources are important.

The students will learn about aquifers, watersheds, wetlands, and what they can do to keep the Natural State’s water clean and clear. NRCS State Conservationist Kalven L. Trice says that if students learn only one thing from WaterFest, he wants it to be that they can make a difference in the future of our environment. Hands-on activities will demonstrate what students can do to keep our natural resources clean and productive.

WaterFest could not happen without the generosity of numerous partners. A big thanks goes to all presenters and partners. For more information on WaterFest contact Ron Brown, Arkansas NRCS Outreach Coordinator at (501) 301-3155.
