Sign-Ups Begin for USDA's Wetlands Reserve Program

More than two million acres enrolled nationwide, surpassing national goal

Little Rock, Ark., Oct. 31, 2008 — Landowners in Arkansas with qualifying properties are encouraged to consider applying for the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP).  This is a voluntary program offering landowners the opportunity to protect, restore and enhance wetlands on their property.

Rotational Grazing Offers Livestock Farmers Chance to Combat High Feed and Fertilizer Costs

The rapid increase in the cost of feed and fertilizer is eating into the profit margins of many livestock farmers in Arkansas. To help alleviate this budget strain, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) can help farmers design a grazing plan to make the best use of their pasture land.

USDA Awards $14 Million in Conservation Innovation Grants

White River Irrigation District Receives $513,833

WASHINGTON, June 23, 2008 — Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer announced the White River Irrigation District will receive a $513,833 Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG) for a Pumping Plant Energy Audit and Reporting System project.

Natural Resources Conservation Service Seeking Native American Artists for Poster Contest

Little Rock, Ark., June 6, 2008 – The Natural Resources Conservation Service in Arkansas is sponsoring an original artwork contest for artists who are Native American. The artwork will be featured as a poster and used by the agency to highlight American Indian Heritage Month in November.

Natural Resources Conservation Service Accepting 2008 Farm Bill Program Applications through June 20, 2008

Sign-ups being held for Environmental Quality Incentives Program, Ground and Surface Water Conservation Program and Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program

Little Rock, Ark., June 3, 2008 – Farmers and landowners in Arkansas have until June 20, 2008, to submit applications to receive cost-share assistance to implement conservation activities through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), Ground and Surface Water Conservation Program (GSWC) and Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) for the 2008 program year. Applicants can sign up at their local USDA/NRCS field service center.

USDA Extends Sign-up for 2008 Conservation Security Program

Sign-Up Will Run Through May 30

WASHINGTON, May 7, 2008—U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Chief Arlen Lancaster today announced that producers in the Upper White-Village Watershed in Arkansas now have until May 30 to apply for the Conservation Security Program (CSP) in fiscal year 2008. The watershed includes portions of Greene, Independence, Jackson, Lawrence, Randolph, White and Woodruff counties.

Schafer Announces Conservation Security Program Sign-Up

Sign-Up Begins April 18 in Upper White-Village Watershed in Arkansas

WASHINGTON, March 20, 2008—Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer announced a sign-up for the Conservation Security Program (CSP) will be available starting on April 18 to approximately 698 potentially eligible farms covering more than 348,750 acres in the Upper White-Village Watershed in Arkansas. The watershed includes portions of Greene, Independence, Jackson, Lawrence, Randolph, White and Woodruff counties.

Contractors Applying for Government Contracts Must Be Registered in the Central Contractor Registration Database

Little Rock, Ark., Feb. 13, 2008 – Contractors applying for government contracts to cleanup the Feb. 5 tornado damage or any other federal contracts are required to be registered in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) database.

NRCS Provides Technical, Financial Assistance to Landowners for Tornado Cleanup

Little Rock, Ark., Feb. 12, 2008 – The USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service is providing Arkansas landowners funding through the Emergency Watershed Protection program for the removal of storm debris from stream channels and bridge structures caused by the Feb. 5 tornadoes.
