NRCS Awards Contract for Logan County Reservoir Repair Work

Recovery Act Assistance will Help Logan County in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, ARK., Sept. 2, 2009 – The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Arkansas awarded a $42,400 contract Aug. 18 for repairs to the Upper Petit Jean Watershed Site 9 in Logan County.

Lamplighter Construction, LLC, of Augusta, Ga., will use a chemical grout to seal and bound three stress cracks that have developed in the transition between the principal spillway inlet structure and out let pipe. Work is scheduled to begin mid-September and be completed by Sept. 30.

“Although the cracks posed no immediate threats, we were concerned the steel in the reinforced concrete might corrode over time,” said Kalven L. Trice, State Conservationist. “This 310-acre reservoir provides flood control for 19,872 acres and water supply for the city of Booneville. It is important for use to ensure the reservoir remains a viable resource for many more years.”

NRCS received funding for the project through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. Funding provided through the ARRA is part of the Obama Administration’s plans to modernize the nation's infrastructure, jumpstart the economy and create jobs.
